NDT methods
Radiographic testing (RT)
Radiographic testing uses X-rays or gamma rays to detect internal defects in materials and welds. The method provides precise documentation without damaging the object, and is widely used in industry for quality control.
Ultrasonic testing (UT)
Ultrasonic testing uses high-frequency sound waves that are reflected from internal defects in the material. The reflections are analysed to reveal cracks and defects, without damaging the object.
Phased array ultrasonic testing (PAUT)
Phased array ultrasonic testing is a development of ultrasonic testing. The probe has many small elements that are controlled individually, so the sound beam can be angled and focused without moving the probe. The results are shown as cross-sectional images of the material, without damaging the object.
Magnetic particle testing (MT)
Magnetic particle testing uses a magnetic field and the application of magnetic particles to reveal surface and near-surface cracks in ferromagnetic materials. The defects become visible when the particles gather at them. The method is often used on welds in structural steel, and is a fast and effective way of ensuring the structural integrity of critical components.
Visual testing (VT)
Visual inspection involves careful assessment of the surface of materials and components to detect visible defects such as cracks, corrosion, deformation, discolouration and weld defects.
Penetrant testing (PT)
Penetrant testing uses coloured or fluorescent liquids that penetrate surface defects. After the excess liquid is removed, a developer is applied that makes the defects visible for assessment.
Eddy current testing (ET)
Eddy current testing uses electromagnetic coils that induce currents in the material. Changes in the electromagnetic field are analysed to identify cracks and other defects.
Material verification and inspection services
Material verification (PMI)
Positive material identification uses techniques such as X-ray fluorescence (XRF) or optical emission spectroscopy (OES) to determine and confirm the chemical composition of materials.
Vendor inspection
Third-party visual inspection checks and verifies the quality and compliance of products and materials from suppliers, to make sure they meet specifications and relevant standards before delivery.
Our own NDT procedures approved by DNV.
We have developed NDT procedures of our own. An NDT procedure is a detailed description of the work that makes sure inspections are carried out in a standardised, precise and safe way.
Our procedures were developed by Level 3 Johnny J. Ekehaug, the highest certification in non-destructive testing, and are approved by DNV, an internationally recognised third party for quality assurance. Because the procedures are our own, we have full control of the entire inspection process, from planning and choice of method to execution and reporting.
Procedures tailored to our expertise, equipment and working methods also give higher efficiency and precision. They are developed with technical requirements, HSE standards and optimal workflow in the field in mind. Where needed, we can quickly develop tailored procedures for a specific assignment, so that we meet unique challenges without compromising quality or compliance.

Norwegian Standard (NS) is a set of official standards prepared by Standards Norway, Norway's national standardisation body.
A Norwegian Standard describes requirements, specifications and best practice for how products, services and processes are to be carried out, documented and controlled. The purpose is to ensure quality, safety, reliability and a level playing field.
Example: NS-EN ISO 9712, the international standard (adapted to a Norwegian version) for the qualification and certification of personnel in non-destructive testing (NDT).
